چکیده
Fecal microbiota transplantation has emerged as a highly effective treatment for recurrent Clostridium difficile infection with very early experience to suggest that it also may play a role in treating other GI and non-GI diseases. Donor screening guidelines are now available along with recommendations regarding routes of administration, diluents, stool weights, and volumes of stool to be used. This review aims to provide an overview of fecal microbiota transplantation, to summarize the data on its efficacy, and to provide the reader with an understanding of how to perform this novel treatment. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) refers to infusion of a fecal suspension from a healthy individual into the GI tract of another person to cure a specific disease. FMT is by no means a new therapeutic modality; however, it did not receive public attention until recently, after several studies were published that showed stool is a biologically active, complex mixture of living organisms with great therapeutic potential for Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) and perhaps other GI and non-GI disorders. The revelations about the human microbiome that are being published by the Human Microbiome Project consortium are bringing the strength of science to clinical observation, thereby enhancing our understanding of just

Fecal Microbiota Transplantation in Liver Diseases and Recent Developments
Introduction: The intestine, as an important part of the human gastrointestinal tract, provides a favorable milieu for the growth and development of a diverse and large population (approximately 1000 species) of bacteria. Currently, the presence of a cohesive relationship between intestinal bacteria and the host is being well studied and identified. According to the available scientific evidenc...
متن کاملTREATMENT OF OBESITY BY IMPROVING THE METABOLISM OF OBESE PEOPLE BY FECAL MICROBIOTA TRANSPLANTATION (FMT) AND FECAL CAPSULES (SYSTEMATIC REVIEW)
Background: Over the past half-century, the prevalence of obesity and related metabolic disorders such as fat disorders, cardiovascular disease, myocardial infarction and stroke have increased dramatically. Various types of organisms, including bacteria, fungi, protozoan, and viruses, have evolved to live in the human gut, called microbiota. Scientists have found that thin people have a balance...
متن کاملSuccessful treatment of severe sepsis and diarrhea after vagotomy utilizing fecal microbiota transplantation: a case report
INTRODUCTION Dysbiosis of intestinal microbiota likely plays an important role in the development of gut-derived infections, making it a potential therapeutic target against sepsis. However, experience with fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in the treatment of sepsis and knowledge of the underlying mechanisms are extremely lacking. In this article, we describe a case of a patient who devel...
متن کاملFecal transplantation indications in ulcerative colitis. Preliminary study
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Fecal microbiota transplantation is used with success in persistent (more than two episodes) Clostridium Difficile Infection; it has also gained importance and started to be used in inflammatory bowel disease. There are theoretical arguments that justify its use in ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. Based on our clinical cases we tried to evaluate the indications of feca...
متن کاملFecal microbiota transplantation for management of Clostridium difficile infection.
The widespread use of antibiotics has led Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) to become a common problem with pronounced medical and economic effects. The recurrence of CDI after treatment with standard antibiotics is becoming more common with the emergence of more resistant strains of C. difficile. As CDI is an antibiotic-associated disease, further treatment with antibiotic is best avoided....
